Chutney Powder (Tamble Puddi)

Tamble Puddi or Chutney Powder is a well known favorite of the Konkani folks in India. It is a sort of spicy dry pickle that is served as a side with a meal of rice, vegetables and gravy. Tamble Puddi is made of dry roasted coconuts, coriander seeds and chilies as the main ingredients, and adds a great flavor and taste to the meal. It can also be eaten as a side with idlis and dosas. Ingredients

  • 1. 1 Dry coconut (cut into small pieces)
  • 2. 250 gms Chana Dal
  • 3. 250 gms Urad Dal
  • 4. 100 gms Coriander Seeds
  • 5. 5 Red Chilies
  • 6. 15 Curry Leaves
  • 7. 1/2 inch Tamarind or 1tsp Tamarind Paste
  • 8. Salt to taste

Instructions

1. Dry roast the dals and coriander seeds for 5 mins. Keep it aside and allow it to cool.

2. Grind the mixture to a fine powder.

3. Roast coconut, chilis and curry leaves together till golden brown. Allow it to cool.

4. Add tamarind and salt and grind the coconut mixture.

5. Transfer it to a plate and add the powdered dals and coriander little by little and mix well.

Notes

You can store the chutney powder for of 3 to 4 month in an airtight container.
