Ingredients

  • 1 (12.3 ounce) package light firm tofu, drained
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or as needed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs, or as needed
  • 4 hamburger buns, split

Instructions

1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

2

Wrap the tofu in paper towels and gently press out as much excess moisture as possible. Chop the tofu finely, then place it in a bowl and mash until smooth.

3

Add salt, garlic powder, cumin, black pepper, thyme, and basil to the mashed tofu, stirring until evenly combined. Mix in the beaten eggs.

4

Gradually fold in seasoned bread crumbs until the mixture holds together, then shape into four even patties.

5

Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear each patty in the hot oil for about 2-3 minutes per side, until lightly browned. Avoid cooking them all the way through at this stage.

6

Transfer the seared patties to a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, until firm and golden. Let them rest slightly before serving.

7

Serve warm on split hamburger buns with your favorite toppings and condiments.

Notes

Tips:
Press your tofu well to remove excess water—this helps your patties hold together and gives a better texture., Add cheese slices to each patty for the last three minutes of baking if you like a melty finish., Bread crumbs can be adjusted for the desired consistency; add more if your mixture feels too wet., Get creative with toppings—avocado slices, pickled onions, or spicy mayo all pair wonderfully with these burgers.
